Change is gonna come…

June brings the bike race and the big salmon feed for the community. Steve volunteered to BBQ. Last year Dacotah and I volunteered but this year with Seeley and Bodie, it was too hard. The meal was delicious and we fed so many people that we ran out of plates! All the bikers camp on the parade grounds in front of us. Luckily, they aren’t a rowdy group like the Brew Festival people!

Our friends Rebecca & Beardsley (not his real name but he does have a WILD beard!) came over for dinner because they are moving to Skagway 😦 We served bruschetta, cedar planked salmon, watermelon salad with feta and for dessert, Steve’s homemade limoncello!

The kids went to Fairbanks for a week. While they were gone, we snuck away to Whitehorse in the Yukon for our 40th anniversary. We had a delightful time, the Nordic spa is HEAVEN!!! Watching people go into the cold plunge was our greatest entertainment. The faces people make are hilarious and I think they should have a camera and then when you leave, they try to sell you the picture. Like the log ride in Mall of America. They don’t allow cell phones in the spa so you can’t take the picture. They have a little cafe that has some delicious food! We always meet very interesting people when we are there. We stayed in a very nice AirB&B. We also went up to Miles Canyon, which is further up the river. The water comes from a glacier which makes the water a beautiful turquoise. It was so BEAUTIFUL!!! The Army Core of Engineers built these bridges across the river and there are nice trails on the other side. When Steve gets his foot back in order, we can take some of these trails. We went to our favorite Indian restaurant. Of course, we had to shop and stock up. The exchange rate is about .70 cents to the US dollar, so even it is expensive, we make out like bandits.

The kids went to Fairbanks for a wedding and we joined my Travis’ twin brother Lance. From the looks of the pics/videos, they had a great time. They went to Costco and purchased a playhouse for Seeley which she apparently really likes.

The next week brought my boss Pam’s surprise party!!! It was a beautiful evening, we decorated the beautiful Chilkat Inlet, served grilled salmon, salads, charcuterie, rice and cake and cupcakes! We had a Prosecco toast to her. She was TOTALLY SURPRISED!!!! Even when they drove up to the Inlet and saw all the cars. She saw her husband’s truck, my bright red car, etc. Sarah Brett her boss, told her she wanted to go check it out because Leatha (a higher up who lives in Juneau) was looking at buying it. She fell for it even though it is not for sale! She had no idea until she saw all of us outside yelling, “Surprise”!!! It was great! I gave her the ugliest house coat that snaps up with Kleenex already in the pockets. I told her that she was probably going to sit around in her house coat-LOL. I was REALLY sad to lose her but now I know who my new boss is and who will be sitting in my room. My boss sent me an email on Monday morning saying that she wanted me out in the community more, wanted to use my people skills instead of inputing info into the computer. YAY!!!! Also, she said I was a “Gem” and that she wanted to make me happy and keep me there. That is the best email to open up on a Monday morning!

June also brings the Firehouse BBQ lunch. Yummy food and the whole community turns out. It was more fun this year because we knew more people. Some friends of Travis’s were here from Fairbanks, so that was fun.

July is coming and it will be WILD!!! Hope you are all well and living your best life.

Kiss,Kiss,
Stephanie
