Beautiful People

Dear Friends & Family,

We had a great Memorial Day, we SLEPT IN! We also went to D & T’s for a BBQ. Unfortunately, it was chilly and windy but the company & food were FANTASTIC. We had pork loin, brats, hamburgers, hot dogs, cowboy beans, potato salad, lettuce salad, homemade rolls, & I brought Minnesota cookie salad, which they had never had. They ate it all! There was a bon fire & their neighbors & the other police officers & their wives were invited. One of the neighbors is pregnant and they wanted to give her a shower, but she is shy and didn’t want all that attention, so they had a “Bun in the oven, brats on the grill” party.

Tuesday night we baby sat and Seeley had a bath and we put her to bed without a peep! Coty was playing soft ball and Trav was working. Wednesday, we took the kids out for pizza because they have been helping us SO MUCH!

We met our new neighbors who live directly above us. They were visiting grandkids in the lower 48 for about 3 months.

Saturday, we went to the first farmer’s market. It seemed like ½ of the town was there. We met lots of people. We shared an egg and cheese biscuit (homemade) with chipotle aioli-YUM! We bought pickled green beans (they only lasted a day), Pickled fiddle head ferns, a local plant. We also got some arugula, pea shoots & mixed greens and man, they were so fresh and delicious. We also found freeze dried skittles! They had a live band that was very good. They sell baked goods, jewelry, hand sewn items, art, honey, it’s just really cool!

Saturday evening, we were sitting on our porch swing enjoying the view and our new neighbors came out and asked us if we liked shrimp. They gave us a bag of coon striped shrimp. They had bought it that day right off the dock.

On Sunday we had Jamie and Vance over for a visit and they brought us 4 Dungeness crab! It is SO GOOD!!! We had already planned to have spot prawns that Steve had flown over from Juneau, so we saved the crab for the next night. We cooked them with whole wheat pasta, cherry tomatoes and arugula-deliciouso! For those of you who were worried that we couldn’t live in this food dessert, we are doing OK and not wasting away-LOL!!!!

I bought some asparagus at the grocery store and there wasn’t a price on it and when I got home, I looked at the receipt and I paid $18.23 for 2 servings…good thing it was delicious! On the flip side we filled up our car in Juneau on May 13th and haven’t even gone through ½ a tank yet!!! Until next week…

Kiss, Kiss,

Stephanie
