Welcome to the first edition of HAINES HAPPENINGS!
I’m writing this edition from the Delta Sky Club in the Seattle Airport because we are supposed to be in Haines, but alas, we are not. Some of you know that the Smith family has had more than their fair share of travel troubles. Some might even say we are cursed. My brother, “Uncle Buck” said, “I’d wish you smooth travels to Haines, but we both know that won’t happen”! Boy was he correct! Apparently, Putin set off a volcano in Russia just to mess with our air space!!! Before we even got off the plane in Seattle, we had a lovely text from Delta saying that our flight was cancelled and that there wasn’t another one available for 48 hours.
We quickly called our family travel agent (Dacotah Russell) and got some great ideas! We got our bags (all 5), got Delta to rebook us on Alaska Air (why can Alaska Air fly and not Delta?) so we are leaving at 6:40pm in Juneau. Had to pay for our bags-AGAIN! Missed our 8-seat puddle jumper to Haines (they were willing to move our reservation over to tomorrow) so now we get to stay in the Super 8 (oxymoron) in Juneau and fly out in the morning. So far, it’s not going smoothly-LOL! We certainly hope “Living Off the Grid” goes better than trying to get there.
I spent Easter weekend with my sister, Paulette which also happened to be her 74th birthday! I missed my plane that day also…darn Mountain time/Central time-very confusing…wondered why the terminal was COMPLETELY empty when I arrived at 5. The flight left at 4:50 not 5:50. I got to watch it fly off without me. Goodnews, Paulette (from now on known as Sissy) hadn’t left because she thought it was odd also. We got to binge more of Shitts’ Creek and have leftover ham sandwiches! YUM! While I was in Rapid City, SD, I was able to meet up with some long-time friends. Carol Marol (that’s not her name but I LOVE to call her that!) We worked together before I even had kids!!!! I had lunch with Dacotah’s Godmother, Biffy-aka Beth Massa who we met at Texas Lutheran. We went to Thai Thai and had terrific Thai food. My fortune was prophetic, and I saved it.
Dare to dream, hope, believe, seek, feel, find, and love.
(In case you are interested the lucky numbers were-12.22.44.35.45.2)
I thought it rather cosmic that my fortune was LITERALLY what Steve and I are doing by moving to AK!
